PROGRAM DESIGN: RTS facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The primary functions of the School Social Worker are twofold: i) oversee social work interns and ii) manage and support social work aspects across Community School.
ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:

Supervises: Social Work Interns
Hours: Fulltime, Monday – Friday
Compensation: $65,000 - $67,000 per year
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Integrate trauma and healing-informed practices into programming.
Routinely communicate with the leadership team on issues students are facing.
Build rapport with participants, foster participant engagement, facilitate periodic one-on-ones, and maintain confidential case files.
Document ongoing assessments, identify areas for growth, plan and track interventions, and strategize with social work interns and staff to address students’ unmet needs.
Access assistance for participants through referrals to community resources and refer participants for additional services as needed.
Establish connections with other agencies to build a robust referral network and identify opportunities for collaboration.
Oversee and train the team of social work interns to work with participants and staff, and plan and prep bi-weekly group meetings.
Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements by staying informed on existing and new legislation.
Serve as the task manager to a group of social work interns.
Co-create and implement the community school mental health work plan and support the day-to-day administrative functioning of student mental health services in the school, utilizing a three-tiered public health framework.
Develop mental health service plans reflecting the specific and unique needs of each school and ensure partnerships within each school overcome barriers such as failure to recognize mental health issues, costs of treatment, inconvenient travel to providers, and concerns about stigma.
Implement targeted (Tier 3), selective (Tier 2), and universal (Tier 1) mental health services to address emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs through specialized interventions and supports for the whole school community.
Collaborate with the DOE’s School Mental Health Team in the Office of School Health to determine mental health services.
Implement Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs that address the four domains of the Supportive Environment element of the Framework for Great Schools.
Provide culturally-responsive training and professional development for adults on building students’ social-emotional competencies and creating equitable learning environments.
Develop students' social-emotional competencies in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Community School Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in MSW required. LMSW or LCSW required from an accredited school of social work.
At least three years of experience in early childhood and youth development.
At least four years of experience in social work in a school setting.
Strong communication skills, critical thinking, and active listing skills.
Experience with group work.
At least one year of supervisory or management experience.
Serve as a lead Roads to Success representative at the school setting.
Experienced with SEL framework.
Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work takes place at PS/MS 57 Public School or their designated summer relocation site.
Travel via public transportation or car may be required throughout NYC.
